We just returned form 3 days in France, visiting the Szunders once more. That is always a load of fun. Since there was no school on Monday and Tuesday and the Szunder kids were in school we went off to Verdun on Monday afternoon. We should of probably taken more time, but such is hindsight. We will return on another visit and do none of the tours at the forts, either Fort Douaumont or Fort Vaux.
On the way back to Frankfurt we unexpectedly completed a “military” weekend with a stop at The Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial in the town of St. Avold, still in France but not far from the German border. We have driven past this on the A4 motorway many times, but never really raised that it is there and what is it. Really quite amazing and sobering, if you are in the area have a look.
We finally have been skiing for a week. A week in St Anton, we had never been there before, but a big and busy resort. Lots of skiing and we had great fun. Lift queues were OK except one morning after new snow, then we were all restricted to the bottom half of the mountain and that seemed to make it really busy. But once that was over, and they had sorted out the piste higher in the mountain, it was back to normal. Weather was good, 3 days sun and 2 days snowing, two of them lightly, and one as fast as it could come down, so that day was not as much fun you could hardly see anything…
James improved some more and Ski School was good for him, thanks to Benni his instructor. Karen managed a week with out falling so that was bliss for her, I managed all but one afternoon on my mono so for me even better.
We stayed at at the Gaestehaus Kordula Falch, which was perfect for us. Just a great location next to the lift and the price is right. James could even watch the mechanics of the lift from our room, great fun for him in the morning and evenings as they started it up and then closed it down, he really enjoyed that.
